Shining a Light Across Sindh: GEF’s Education Odyssey Spreads Knowledge Far and Wide
Ghazali Education Foundation (GEF) is on a mission – to illuminate every corner of Pakistan with the radiant beam of education. And nowhere is this dedication more evident than in Sindh, where the Ghazali Sindh Education Program shines brightly.
Forging Partnerships, Building Futures:
Collaborating with Sindh Education Foundation (SEF), GEF embarks on two impactful programs: Foundation Assisted Schools (FAS) and People Assisted Schools (PAS). In FAS, they’ve brought education to the doorsteps of 2,700 children in remote districts, opening 9 new schools within a year! Five already boast purpose-built campuses, with the remaining four on track for completion by 2023.
But the journey isn’t without its challenges. Finding qualified teachers in these regions posed a hurdle. GEF tackled this head-on, offering competitive packages and transportation incentives to draw talented female graduates from cities. They understood the importance of female educators, not just for teaching, but for inspiring local communities to embrace girls’ education.
Overcoming Hurdles, Embracing Challenges:
Local reluctance to send girls to school demanded a different approach. GEF formed Local School Committees, bringing community members on board to recognize the transformative power of education for their children. Building trust and understanding became key to unlocking doors and illuminating minds.
The quest for excellence continues. Establishing all nine FAS schools with their own campuses remains a crucial target. Introducing formative assessment and shifting from rote learning to activity-based methods are additional goals, ensuring comprehensive student growth and a vibrant learning environment.
Providing career development opportunities for teachers through subject-based and skill-oriented workshops empowers them to keep pace with evolving pedagogies. Increasing female student attendance to 50% is another ambitious yet achievable dream, one that will shatter old norms and pave the way for a brighter future for girls.
PAS: Expanding Reach, Inspiring Innovation:
GEF’s journey in PAS began in July 2022. SEF entrusted them with the management of two English-medium schools in urban areas, recognizing their commitment to quality education. These schools, operating under SEF’s Public-Private Partnership model, provide free education to 600 students, enriching their lives with diverse learning experiences.
Seeing GEF’s dedication firsthand, SEF plans to extend their partnership further, potentially entrusting them with another school. This speaks volumes about the impact GEF is making in Sindh, transforming lives and illuminating futures with each child they reach
