Foundation Assisted Schools
New schools opened in remote districts where children had no access to education, with purpose-built campuses so every child learns in a safe, permanent space.
Help open a school →In remote districts of Sindh, many children have never had a school within reach, and girls face the greatest barriers of all. In partnership with the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF), our Sindh basic education program opens new schools, recruits trained female teachers, and works with local communities so every child can learn close to home.

WHY THIS MATTERS
Across Sindh’s remote districts, families often have no school within reach, qualified teachers are hard to find, and many parents are hesitant to send their daughters to class. As part of the wider Sindh education reform program, GEF works with the Sindh Education Foundation through two models: Foundation Assisted Schools (FAS), which bring new schools to underserved villages, and People Assisted Schools (PAS), where GEF manages schools under SEF’s Public-Private Partnership model.

Through its Foundation Assisted Schools, GEF opened 9 new schools in remote districts within a single year, bringing education to the doorsteps of 2,700 children. Since July 2022, the Sindh Education Foundation has also entrusted GEF with managing two English-medium schools in urban areas, where 600 students receive free education. Seeing these results, SEF plans to extend the partnership even further.
